No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain last night touched on a few things, among them, making agave liquor and raising Wagyu Beef, but also 3 main points that 80/20 is (and eventually will become) about. Burgers, Pizza and blogging.

The burger of focus was the NYC’s Minetta Tavern’s $26 black label burger. While that’s not something I’d ever eat more than once, I’d probably pay it once, just to try it.
The pizza focused on an interesting process for creating the dough. When I make pizza, I’m more focused on the cooking method, so it was definitely a new way to think, which is always good.
And then the blogging. I think the bloggers didnt put themselves in a very positive light, and Bourdain took a few shots at them as well. They were all overweight, bitched about not getting laid, and were pretty defensive fellows. While i can absolutely get behind their appreciation for food I definitely dont want to get lumped in with that lot. The main difference that I can distill from them and me is that I love cooking as well as eating. The process, the effort, the reward of a delicious meal. Not the fetishization of restaurants and chefs and the minuitae of service and place settings.
All in all it was a good episode that hit home in a good way, because it lets me know I’m not crazy, I just like food. A lot.
